Background:
The overall objective of the child protection officer is to ensure, under the responsibility of CP Manager, the implementation of activities related to children’s protection, within the frame of the project.
In the course of undertaking his/her tasks, s/he represents TGH with professionalism, honesty and commitment and attempts at all times to maintain TGH professional reputation through the work implemented.
The Child Protection Officer provides specific support for all Case Workers & PSS facilitators who are supporting conflict affected children and families through case management services and psychosocial activities in targeted areas
Duties and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the CP manager, the CP officer Will be responsible to:

Responsibility 5: Participate in the development of new projects
Responsibilities And Related Tasks:
- Field coordination and team management
- Manage and support the protection field team under their line management;
- Represent TGH with local authorities and communities, ensuing TGH acceptance, access and teams safety;
- Represent TGH with partners, NGOs, UNs, clusters; and coordinate with them in TGH locations of intervention;
- Share information about security in the targeted areas with the field coordinator to make informed and safe decisions about teams field movements on a daily basis; report to field coordinator any security incident or field events relevant to his analysis of the context and of teams safety and movements;
- Support project management team in conducting needs assessments and identifying locations of interventions at the beginning of the project;
- Support partners staff to carry out their tasks, as directed by the CP Manager and in coordination with the Local partnerships and Capacity building manager.
- Technical support to Child Protection teams
- Technical supervision and training of case workers on case management according to the standard procedure operations (SOPs); ensure that all Case Workers are following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Guideline and tools for case management process to maintain quality monitoring;
- Ensure that urgent and challenging cases are immediately discussed with the child protection manager;
- In coordination with CP Manager, the Child protection Officer will update referral opportunities on a regular basis and ensuring effective referral pathway of existing services to which children and families can be referred to; Make the link between families, local authorities, schools and non-formal education actors in the area and other partners to support children at risk, including children needs;
- Provide all relevant child protection trainings for child protection teams to ensure the capacity building of the team;
- Ensure a healthy and safe environment for children while conduction activities;
- Contribute in the sensitization/awareness campaign to promote children’s rights (children, families, school…), in materials definition and in events organization;
- Follow-up the volunteers from the community working on CP activities (monitor the tasks requested to the volunteers, support them and ensure they meet the expected quality);
- Facilitate awareness campaigns on PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) to affected populations and local communities, the standards of conduct expected of TGH staff and partners, and the various mechanisms for reporting abuse or concerns related to PSEA, including contact information.
- Ensures that TGH staff and partners comply with the Child Safeguarding Policy;
- Provide technical and planning feedback/support to team members on planned activities aiming at organizing high quality activities;
- Ensure an equal treatment of the beneficiaries, respect confidentiality and follow TGH ethical guidelines and TGH code of conduct;
- For UASC, implement a close monitoring system and follow alternative care guideline to ensure the best interest of the child;
- In coordination with CP Manager, local authorities or other child protection partners, follow Family reunification processes;
- Ensure community awareness of TGH FCRM (Feedback, Complaints and Response Mechanism), and support community engagement in this mechanism.
3. Monitoring and Reporting activities
- Contribute to the data collection as directed by CP manager;
- Carry out various campaigns of surveys as directed by the CP manager (e.g. baseline, needs assessment for locations identification, Post Distribution Monitoring…);
- Conduct various monitoring activities, as per CP planning and TGH CP monitoring tools; train the team on TGH monitoring tools and make sure they are used and shared in a timely manner; in when required, collaboration with CP manager, improve all child protection monitoring tools (database, child well-being evaluation, other tools)
- Ensure timely reporting on the conducted activities to the CP Manager;
- Inform the CP Manager of any community context updates (difficulties linked to the project, new needs, relevant new training to conduct, etc);
- Inform the CP Manager of any interesting events that can be used to communicate about the project or TGH (success story, community event. etc);
- Support and monitor that TGH and partners’ staff respect the PSEA and Child Safeguarding guidelines;
- Participate in project evaluation and impact assessment;
- Organize regular meetings with Case Workers, PSS facilitators and community mobilizers to identify trainings needs and get regular feedbacks from the field;
- Prepare daily/weekly activity plans and reports; share with the child protection manager;
- Facilitate and supervise local partners on the base and field level.
4. Capacity-building
- Participate actively in the training courses recommended by TGH, and share new skills and knowledge with his/ her team or colleagues;
- Inform his/her manager about identified training needs and training opportunities on his/ her job-related matters;
- Co-operate in the supervision of partner organizations according to TGH partnership agreements where necessary, and at the direction of the CP Manager; Follow up on activities and ensure regular report submitting from local partners as agreed on MoU and/or TA.
5. Participate in the development of new projects and implementation of needs assessments.
- When asked, support TGH in the development of new projects by providing relevant field information and recommendations;
- Support in the design and implementation of needs assessments in targeted locations;
- Communicate on field needs and ensure good information sharing throughout project implementation that might feed new project proposals.
Any other tasks may be required for the running of the projects!!
NB: Some parts of this job description could be modified according to the evolution of activities, and after the employee has been consulted.
Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Required knowledge and skills and required
- Degree/Diploma certification in social sciences (sociology etc.), psychology, Child Protection, Education, Psychology or other related fields;
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in protection with NGOs;
- Participated in practical CP activities, with Ministry, CP institutions, NGO or any related bodies;
- Previous experience in mobile services delivery is appreciated;
- Previous experience in field teams management is advisable;
- Good knowledge of WEST Darfur;
- Basic computer skills (word/excel/outlook).
- Basic English knowledge (able to speak, read and write).
- Knowledge of the locality and good relationships with traditional authorities (Sheikhs and Omdas).
- Proficient in the main local language in the area.
