UNOPS ETMCO – Sudan is recruiting for this position: Driver based in Port Sudan, Sudan.

Duty Station: Non-Family (Hardship location)


This is a local position, and is hence open to Sudanese nationals only.

This position is located within the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Sudan, and the incumbent will be based in Port Sudan RCO and will work closely with the information advisor and Information specialist based in the Resident Coordinator’s Office. 

The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services and clerical support ensuring high accuracy of work. The incumbent demonstrates a client-oriented approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact, and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.  The Driver also provides clerical support services inside and messenger services outside the office as required.

The Driver will be responsible for the below listed tasks;

Driving functions

Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving services by;

a) Driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel
b) Collecting and delivering mail, documents and other items and 
c) Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required. 

  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs for the preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc. 
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.

Results Expected:

  • The key result is accurate, safe, and timely execution of the UNOPS office services for its projects. 
  • Timely execution of delivery functions; 
  • Client satisfaction based on feedback against performance and measurements;
  • The office car is always in clean, good, and serviceable condition.
EducationSecondary School  Education completion is required.A Technical Diploma in Automotive is an added advantage but is not a requirement.A valid Driver’s license with a minimum 2nd-grade level is required.
ExperienceA minimum of two (2) years of work experience as a driver of civilian vehicles with safe driving records is required.Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs is an added advantage.Experience working with UN/INGOs is an advantage.
Language Fluency in written, spoken, and English is required.Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
